Oklahoma State vs BYU Picks and Prediction – 10/19/2024

In Friday night college football action, the Oklahoma State Cowboys will travel to LaVell Edwards Stadium to take on the BYU Cougars. The Cowboys (3-3) were expected to compete for a Big 12 Conference title but have dropped their first three conference games and rank last in total defense. Last time out, Oklahoma State was torched for 31 points during the first half of a 38-14 home loss versus West Virginia. 

Oklahoma State finally got on the scoreboard with less than two minutes in the first half on an eight-yard Rashod Owens touchdown reception. Alan Bowman was benched after throwing two interceptions. Ollie Gordon’s disappointing season for the Cowboys continued with just 50 rushing yards on 13 carries.  

The BYU Cougars were picked near the bottom in the preseason Big 12 Conference football poll and are currently one of just three undefeated teams in conference play. The 13th ranked Cougars (6-0) rank fourth in the conference in total defense and are allowing 16.3 points per game. On Saturday, BYU erupted for 27 points during the second half to run away with a 41-19 home victory versus Arizona. 

BYU QB Jake Retzlaff completed 18 of 32 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns. The Cougars took a 14-7 halftime lead on a trick play, as Parker Kingston found L.J. Martin on a 33-yard touchdown pass. BYU WR Darius Lassiter contributed a game-high 86 receiving yards on five receptions. 

Oklahoma State defeated BYU in Stillwater last season by a 40-34 final score. Ollie Gordon ran wild for 166 yards and five touchdowns in that game. Coming into the rematch, the Cougars feature a much improved defense and Gordon has done little for the Cowboys. Take BYU to win and cover at home. Final Score Prediction, BYU Cougars win 35-20.
