Northern Illinois at Nebraska 9/14/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Northern Illinois Huskies are set to visit Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska for a Week 3 clash against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Northern Illinois Huskies come into this matchup with a 1-1 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the Utah Utes, 35-17. QB Ross Bowers had a solid game against one of the best defenses in the nation as he connected on 20 of his 29 pass attempts for 229 yards, 1 TD, and an interception. WR Spencer Tears had a big game for Bowers and the Huskies as he hauled in 5 catches for 112 yards and a TD.

The Northern Illinois Huskies struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the Utah Utes as they allowed 35 points and a total of 407 yards on offense. Sophomore CB Devin Haney had a solid game from the secondary as he contributed a team-high 9 tackles. Senior LB Antonio Jones-Davis had an all-around showing for the Northern Illinois Huskies as he compiled 7 tackles, .5 TFL, and a pass deflection.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers come into this matchup with a 1-1 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the Colorado Buffaloes, 34-31 in OT. QB Adrian Martinez had a solid all-around game for the Cornhuskers as the sophomore threw for 290 yards, 2 TDs, and an interception while also adding in 66 rushing yards and 2 TD.s RB Maurice Washington was solid out of the backfield as he hauled in 4 catches for 118 yards and a TD while pitching in 77 rushing yards.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the Colorado Buffaloes as they allowed 34 points and a total of 464 yards on offense. Junior LB Will Honas led the way for the Nebraska Cornhuskers with 9 tackles and 1 TFL. Senior LB Mohamed Barry had a solid game from the middle of the defense as he compiled 6 tackles and a sack. Senior CB Lamar Jackson was responsible for the interception for the Cornhuskers.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers received a ton of preseason hype, but they have failed to show me that they are a top 25 team let alone a bowl worthy program. The Northern Illinois Huskies have traditionally scheduled tough opponents which has helped them in conference play as well as in bowl games, and they proved they can hang with ranked opponents with a good game against Utah last week. The Huskies are improved on the offensive side of the ball with senior leadership throughout. The Cornhuskers allowed the Colorado Buffaloes to score 24 points in the 4th quarter which may have deflated this young team, and Northern Illinois has always been the team to stick around in those games. Final Score Prediction, Nebraska Cornhuskers win but fail to cover ATS 31-20.
