The Tar Heels are coming to the game here after having a nice 2020 season. Granted, it was not a full season with a lot of hard competition, but it still saw the Tar Heels sit on an 8-4 record overall, but 7-3 in the ACC last year. From last year the team is returning 8 offensive and 8 defensive players.
In 2020 the passing offense ended up getting 301 yards per game which was 18th nationally. The rushing attack gained 236 yards per game or 11th nationally. The overall offense was at 537 yards per game and 5th nationally which resulted in the 9th best scoring offense at 41.7 points per game. The defense allowed only 29.4 points per game, which was ranked 65th in the nation.
Last season was a fairly big disappointment for Virginia Tech. The Hokies ended up finishing the year with a 5-6 overall record, but a 5-5 record in the ACC. The Hokies are bringing back only 6 offensive starters, but are bringing back 8 starters from the defensive side of the ball.
The Hokies were able to pass the ball for 200 yards per game last year which was good for 89th nationally. When it came to running the ball the Hokies gained only 240 yards per game, but it was 10th best in the nation. The overall offensive gain was 440 yards per game and 31st nationally, which led to the 43rd best scoring offense at 31.1 points per game. Defensively the Hokies allowed 32.1 points per game.
