New Mexico at New Mexico State 9/15/18 - CFB Picks & Predictions

Bragging rights for the state of New Mexico will be on the line Saturday when the New Mexico Lobos (1-1) visit the New Mexico State Aggies (0-3) at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

New Mexico lost its last outing Saturday 45-14 to the Wisconsin Badgers. The Lobos defense could not stop Badgers running back Jonathan Thomas who rushed for 253 yards. New Mexico played third string quarterback Sheriron Jones due to injuries. The Lobos scored on the game’s first drive, but could not score again until late in the second half when the game was far out of reach. Jones finished the game with 79 yards passing, one touchdown and two interceptions.

New Mexico State lost its third straight game on Saturday falling to Utah State 60-13. The Aggies trailed by nine points after one quarter, but were down 33-10 at the half and were outscored 27-3 after intermission. The offensive highlight of the game for NMS was the two field goals by Aggies kicker Dylan Brown. New Mexico starting quarterback Tevaka Tuioti has been ruled out for the game. Backup Sheriron Jones with 101 yards passing, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions is likely to start. The leading rusher for the Lobos is Tyrone Owens with 115 yards and two touchdowns, while the leading receiver is Elijah Lilly with 83 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Matt Romero leads the Aggies with 534 yards passing, three touchdown and four interceptions. The leading rusher is Jason Huntley with 63 yards, while Royce Caldwell is close behind with 61 yards. Drew Dan has 12 receptions for 177 yards and one touchdown and Jonathan Boone has 13 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown for NMS.

New Mexico State has covered the number in each of the last four meetings with New Mexico. The Lobos have major problems at quarterback injuries decimating that position. Sheriron Jones will likely start but the third string quarterback will find it hard on the road in front of a hostile crowd against to top rival. Take the home chalk to cover. Final Score Prediction, New Mexico State Aggies win and cover ATS 24-14.
