Last Updated: 09/23/2022 at 9:04 PM ET

The Louisiana State Tigers host the New Mexico Lobos on Sept. 24. The Tigers are 29-point favorites in first ever meeting with the Lobos.

LSU upset Mississippi State at home Saturday, winning 31-16. The Tigers were a three-point underdog to the Bulldogs. LSU trailed the entire game until taking a 17-16 lead early in the fourth quarter. Two more scores at 6:53 and 4:50 made it 31-16. Mississippi State appeared to be on the way to a late score, but an LSU interception with 3:06 left assured the win and UNDER 53.5 points total.

The Tigers were four-point favorites against Florida State in the opener but lost 24-23. The O/U for the game was 51. Neither the spread or the OVER were much in doubt for Week 2 at LSU cruised past Southern 65-17.

New Mexico beat UTEP, 27-10, on Saturday as two-point underdogs. The Lobos let 10-3 after the first quarter and 20-3 at the half. They traded touchdowns with UTEP late in the fourth quarter, but the game finished a half-point UNDER to projected total.

Just six-point favorites in the season opener against Maine, New Mexico won big, 41-0. The O/U for that game was 42.5. The Lobos did lost 31-14, by the exact margin predicted for a push but the game OVER by two points.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has completed 57 of 82 passes for 556 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. He has also run the ball 35 times for 225 and two scores. Amoni Goodwin is the team leader with three rushing touchdowns. Goodwin has rushed 26 times for 174 yards. Malik Nabers has 14 receptions for 199 yards and a score. Jaray Jenkins has hauled in three touchdowns through the air and has eight catches for 69 yards.

New Mexico QB Miles Kendrick has thrown for just three touchdowns thus far and has been picked off three time while completing 56.3% of his passes for 379 yards. Sherod White has 101 rushing yards and three TDs to lead the Lobos’ running attack. Geordon Porter has nine receptions for 140 yards and two scores.

LSU has scored 39.7 points a game compared to 27.3 per for New Mexico. The Tigers hold a big edge in total offense per game as well, averaging 438 yards a game to the Lobos’ 286.3. New Mexico’s defense has played well, allowing just 263 yards a game, while LSU’s is allowing 314.3 yards on average. The Lobos will have their hands full trying to contain Daniels, and we expect the Arizona State transfer to have a big game. That said, -29 is a big number that maybe be too big to cover. Final Score Prediction: LSU wins but doesn’t cover 46-23.
