Nebraska vs Northwestern 8/27/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions
Last Updated: 08/26/2022 at 10:04 AM ET
The Big Ten Conference will open up their 2022 college football schedule with a matchup between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Northwestern Wildcats from Dublin, Ireland. The Cornhuskers have won just 15 games over the past four seasons for head coach Scott Frost, but could be poised for a breakthrough. Nebraska hired offensive coordinator Mark Whipple to lead a talented unit that finished second in the conference in total offense last year.
For Nebraska to take the next step, a defense that managed to force just 12 turnovers must improve. The Cornhuskers are banking on TCU DE transfer Ochuan Mathis (12.5 sacks) to wreak more havoc.
The Northwestern Wildcats have been one of the more consistent programs in the Big Ten Conference, but have plenty to prove entering the 2022 season. Last year, Northwestern finished last in the conference in scoring offense and 12th in scoring defense. Cam Porter and Evan Hull give the Wildcats a talented running combination to feature behind a solid offensive line.
The Northwestern defense took a significant step back in 2021, falling to 89th in scoring defense after finishing 5th nationally in 2020. The Wildcats will lean on an experienced secondary that returns starting CBs Cameron Mitchell and A.J. Hampton Jr. to get things turned around.
Betting Trends for vs
Positive regression is in store for a Nebraska program which has lost 20 of their last 29 games by eight points or less. Northwestern will look to establish their run game and the under is my lean on the total. The stronger play is for the Wildcats to get the cover. Final Score Prediction, Nebraska Cornhuskers win 27-21.
