Mississippi State at Texas Tech 12/28/21 - AutoZone Liberty Bowl Picks & Predictions

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl will take place on Tuesday night, when the Mississippi State Bulldogs take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Bulldogs (7-5) split their eight SEC Conference games and finished third in the nation in passing offense (385.7 ypg). In the Egg Bowl, Mississippi State was limited to six points through the first three quarters of a 31-21 home loss versus Ole Miss.

WR Jaden Walley scored on a 11-yard touchdown pass from Will Rogers to cut the lead to 24-13 midway through the fourth quarter. Rogers finished with 336 passing yards on 58 attempts.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders fired head coach Matt Wells during the season and will move into next year with Joey McGuire at the helm. The Red Raiders (6-6) lost four of five games to end the season and finished 3-6 in Big 12 Conference play. Last time out, Texas Tech missed a 53-yard field goal as time expired during a 27-24 road loss against Baylor.

Texas Tech QB Donovan Smith completed 15 of 23 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns. Travis Koontz caught five passes for 117 yards, including a 75-yard reception for a score.

Mississippi State owns a 4-2-1 edge over Texas Tech all-time, but these two schools have not met since 1970. I do not expect the Bulldogs to be too motivated for this game, so the Red Raiders are worth a look. The stronger play is on the over. Final Score Prediction, Mississippi State Bulldogs win 38-31.
