Middle Tennessee at Iowa 9/28/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders are set to visit Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa for a Week 5 clash against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders come into this matchup with a 1-2 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent home game against the Duke Blue Devils, 41-18. Sophomore QB Asher O’Hara had a solid game for the Blue Raiders as he connected on 19 of his 27 pass attempts for 201 yards and 2 TDs. WR CJ Windham was on the receiving end for both of O’Hara’s TD passes while also contributing 40 yards.

The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the Duke Blue Devils as they allowed 41 points and a total of 463 yards of offense. Junior safety Reed Blankenship led the way from the secondary for the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders as he contributed 9 tackles. Senior LB Chris Melton was able to get into the Duke backfield a handful of times as he pitched in 2 TFL.

The Iowa Hawkeyes come into this matchup with a 3-0 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent road game against the Iowa State Cyclones, 18-17. QB Nate Stanley had an efficient game through the air for the Iowa Hawkeyes as he connected on 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 201 yards while also adding a rushing TD. RB Mekhi Sargent was kept in check for most of the game for the Hawkeyes as he only compiled 58 rushing yards.

The Iowa Hawkeyes were very good on the defensive side of the ball against the Iowa State Cyclones as they allowed 17 points while forcing 2 turnovers. The secondary was able to have a solid game for the Iowa Cyclones as Sophomore Jack Koerner and Freshman D.J. Johnson combined for 16 tackles and 4 pass deflections. Senior LB Kristian Welch was able to get home for the lone sack of the game for the Hawkeyes while also pitching in 6 tackles.

The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders have been throttled by their power 5 opponents this season as Michigan and Duke have put up a ton of points, and I see similar trends following here. The Hawkeyes were able to win a big road game over their in-state rival which has elevated their confidence, and they should be well prepared for this game as they are coming off a bye week. The Iowa defense has proven their worth multiple times this season, and the Middle Tennessee State offense has had their fair share of struggles. Nate Stanley has improved over the years for the Hawkeyes, and he continues to have a big season with another 200-yard and 3 TD performance here. Final Score Prediction, Iowa Hawkeyes win and cover ATS 42-10.
