Memphis vs Wake Forest 12/22/18 - Birmingham Bowl - CFB Picks & Predictions

The second weekend of the College Football Bowl Season will kickoff with a matchup between the Memphis Tigers and Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the Birmingham Bowl. The Tigers won eight games during the regular season and are led in rushing by Darrell Henderson with 1,909 yards. In the American Conference Championship Game, Memphis was outscored by 32 points during the second half of a 56-41 loss versus Central Florida. Henderson rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns in defeat.

Through thirteen games, Memphis ranks fourth in the nation in total offense and is scoring 43.6 points on average. Wake Forest features an underachieving defense that ranks 116th in yards allowed and gives up 33.3 points per game. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons were two games below .500 in ACC Conference play and split their 12 games overall. In their last outing, Wake Forest became bowl eligible with a lopsided 59-7 victory at Duke. Cade Carney rushed for a career best 223 yards and two touchdowns for the Demon Deacons, who forced four turnovers and racked up 517 yards of total offense on the afternoon.

For the season, Wake Forest ranks 33rd nationally in total offense and is scoring 32.5 points per contest. Memphis has plenty of holes on a defense that allows 420 yards and 31.5 points on average.

These two teams have split their previous four meetings and have not met since 1967. Both defense struggle, so the over is definitely worth a look. The stronger play is on a more battle tested Wake Forest team to win outright as an underdog. Final Score Prediction, Wake Forest Demon Deacons win but grab the points just in case 41-38.
