On Saturday afternoon, the top two ranked teams in the nation square off when the No. 1 ranked LSU Tigers visit Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for an SEC showdown against the No. 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. LSU had a bye in Week 10 after defeating the Auburn Tigers 23-20 at home in Week 9 to improve to 8-0. Joe Burrow threw for 321 yards and one touchdown and rushed for another in the LSU win at Death Valley.

Alabama also had a bye during Week 10 and defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 48-7 during Week 9. With the win, Alabama improved to 8-0. However, the Crimson Tide defeated Arkansas with backup quarterback Mac Jones, who threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns as starter Tua Tagovailoa recovered from minor surgery to his ankle.
