On Saturday, the UL Monroe Warhawks visit Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, North Carolina to play the Appalachian State Mountaineers. The Warhawks improved to 3-3 with a 24-14 victory on Thursday over the Texas State Bobcats. Josh Johnson rushed for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns. UL Monroe leads the West division of the Sun Belt at 2-0.
Appalachian State improved to 5-0 after its 17-7 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday in a rematch of last season’s Sun Belt championship game. Zac Thomas rushed for two quarterback sneaks with the second coming with less than two minutes remaining as the Mountaineers improved to 2-0 in conference place and lead the East division.
Caleb Evans leads UL Monroe in passing with 1,397 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Josh Johnson is the leading rusher with 712 yards and six touchdowns, while Evans has 341 yards and six touchdowns. Markis McCray leads all receivers with 298 yards and one TD. The leading tackler for the Warhawks is Cortez Sisco Jr. with 45.
