In their first game of the regular season, the Liberty Flames will travel on the road to face off against the university of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on September 3 for a scheduled kick off time of 7 PM Eastern. This game will be available on ESPN plus.

Liberty had a fantastic season in 2021 with Malik Willis leading the way who is now a member of the NFL and the Tennessee Titans. Liberty was victorious in the final game last season in the lending tree bowl against Eastern Michigan by the score of 56–20.

Southern Mississippi had a bad showing last season going 3–9 however winning the final game of the year by the score of 37–17 against Florida international. Frank Gore Junior threw two touchdown passes and ran for two touchdowns for Southern Mississippi in the victory.

Jonathan Bennett and Charlie Brewer will present a two headed monster at quarterback to fill in for Malik Willis drafted into the NFL. As time goes by we will see which quarterback takes over as the starter.

Liberty finished the season in 2021 with a record of eight wins, and only five losses. This was not only because of Malik Willis. Senior running back TJ Green is also a large loss for the Flames as well as Kevin Shaa, a 5'10 wide receiver who is now a member of the Chicago Bears. With all of these starter losses for Liberty, we see the university of Southern Mississippi making this a close game covering the 3.5 spread. Final Score Prediction: Liberty wins by the score of 27–24.
