Kent State at Arizona State 8/29/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

On Thursday August 29 the Kent State Golden Flashes will visit Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona to play the Arizona State Sun Devils in the opening game of the 2019 college football regular season for both.

The Golden Flashes return Woody Barrett as the starting quarterback. Barrett is a threat both to run and pass making it difficult for defenses to play against Kent State. Jo-El Shaw led the Golden Flashes in rushing last season and returns. Mike Carrigan, Antwan Dixon and Isaiah McKoy all return at wide receiver for the Golden Flashes. Two starters for the offensive line are back but a lack of experience is a concern.

Jayden Daniels will be the new starting quarterback for the Sun Devils. Arizona State returns its top running back from last season in Eno Benjamin, but its top wide receiver from last season must be replaced. Kyle Williams and Brandon Aiyuk are the two top returning receivers. Four of the five starters from the offensive line last season return and the Sun Devils could have the second best offensive line in the Pac-12 behind just that of Oregon. Woody Barrett is the returning quarterback for Kent State. Last season Barrett threw for 2,339 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions and rushed for 503 yards and seven touchdowns. Jo-El Shaw returns as the top running back from last season when he rushed for 657 yards and seven touchdowns. Mike Carrigan is the leading receiver returning from last season. Carrigan caught 45 passes for 597 yards and five touchdowns.

Jayden Daniels is considered a dual-threat at quarterback for the Sun Devils and will become the first true freshman to start the season opener for Arizona State. Eno Benjamin returns as the leading rusher from last season when he ran for 1,642 yards and 16 touchdowns. The top receiver returning from last season is Brando Aiyuk who caught 33 passes for 474 yards and three touchdowns.
