Nevada has been through the fire, literally. The team has had to move around just to find places to practice because of wildfires. The Wolf Pack will be glad to be on its home field this weekend when it hosts Idaho State. The air quality in Nevada is such that the game could be moved before the weekend.
Hopes are high for Nevada, who has all 11 starters back on offense from a team that was good last year. They are picked to win the Mountain West and received votes in the latest AP poll but were not in the top 25.
Nevada opened the season last week with a solid win over Cal. In that game, Nevada trailed 14-0 early, but from there they ruled the field.
Idaho State, an FCS school, lost to No. 8 North Dakota in its opener, 35-14. The Bengals were 2-4 last year. All but one of those games were decided by four points or less. Idaho State beat Nevada in 2017, but the Wolf Pack was struggling at that point.
In the win, Carson Strong passed for 312 yards and two touchdowns for Nevada. Three receivers had 76 or more yards. The team had 66 yards rushing. After early struggles, the Nevada Defense settled down and kept Cal under control.
For Idaho State, Tyler Vander Wall passed for 229 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Idaho State had 72 yards rushing on 30 carries. Against Idaho State, North Dakota had 183 yards passing and 185 yards rushing.
