Houston vs UTSA 9/3/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Houston Cougars come into the 2022 season after a stellar 12-2 year in 2021. Houston comes into 2022 loaded with talent on both sides of the ball as the Cougars will compete for the top of their conference. Quarterback Clayton Tune will be the leader for Houston this season coming off a near 40 touchdowns season a year ago. 

Tune will have a variety of weapons at his disposal at the receiver position led by Nathaniel Dell who hauled in 90 catches a year ago. Houston will add in a big time transfer from Oklahoma in Cody Jackson and youngster Matthew Golden to accommodate Kesean Carter who is expected to break out this year for Houston.

Defensively Houston will again be elite in 2022 after finishing the 2021 season as the 6th best defense in the nation. Defensive end Derrick Parish will be relied upon heavily to disrupt opposing offenses allowing the Houston Cougars defensive backs to wreak havoc all over the field. First team all conference player Gervarrius Owens will again be in uniform for Houston as he will lead a young group of defenders in 2022.

The UTSA Roadrunners are off their best season in school history after finishing 2021 12-2 overall. UTSA comes into the 2021 season as a potential favorite to win Conference USA as they will be led by quarterback Frank Harris and a load offensive weapons around him.

The defensive side of the ball for UTSA will see 5 starters return  for the defense this season. Nose guard Brandon Brown was an All-Conference Honorable Mention player from a year ago and will be relied upon heavily to make the leap to the next step. The Roadrunners will also lean on a good group of linebackers and defensive backs to round out the defensive unit.
