The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are set to visit Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, California for a Mountain West clash against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will be playing their 1st game of the season, and they will be looking to repeat some of their 2019 success (10-5) under 1st year coach Todd Graham. The Rainbow Warriors graduated QB Cole McDonald (4135 yards, 33 TDs, and 14 Interceptions), but they shouldn’t lose a beat with Chevan Cordeiro under center as he threw for 8 TDs last season. Hawaii also graduated two of their top WRs with JoJo Ward and Cedric Byrd combining for 2231 yards and 21 TDs, but they brought in Rico Bussey from North Texas and bring back Jared Smart who had 1129 receiving yards last season.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors struggled on the defensive side of the ball during the 2019 season as they allowed their opponents to score an average of 31.9 PPG. The Rainbow Warriors will return some key pieces on the defensive side of the ball with their leading tackler DB Khoury Bethley (83 tackles and 2 INTs) coming back. Joining Bethley in the secondary will be Kai Kaneshiro who led the team in interceptions last year with 3 while also pitching in 55 tackles.

The Fresno State Bulldogs will also be playing their 1st game of the season, and they will be hoping for a much better season after finishing the 2019 year with a 4-8 record. The Bulldogs will have to reset at the QB position after Jorge Reyna graduated which is a big blow considering he threw for 2654 yards, 15 TDs, and 11 interceptions last year. Whoever steps in at QB will have weapons all over the field which includes RB Ronnie Rivers as he ran for 899 yards and 13 TDs while also adding 352 receiving yards during the 2019 season.

The Fresno State Bulldogs struggled on the defensive side of the ball during the 2019 season as they allowed their opponents to score an average of 30.1 PPG. The Fresno State Bulldogs will have to replace their leading tackler from a season ago as Justin Rice moved to the NFL after having 112 tackles and 7 TFLs. The Bulldogs are expecting DB Wylan Free to be an impact once again as he had 64 tackles and 2 interceptions last year.

The Fresno State Bulldogs may be favored in this game due to playing at home, but I am not sold on this team as they have to replace their QB and a ton of key defenders. The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will have a new look under center this season as well, but Chevan Cordeiro has seen plenty of time over the past 2 years, and he shouldn’t miss a beat with his dangerous WR corp. The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors received some key transfers with Rico Bussey being one of the biggest ones, and he should be able to find success in the high-powered offense. Hawaii is coming off one of their best years in program history, and I expect them to once again be a contender in the MWC. Final Score Prediction, Hawaii Rainbow Warriors win and cover ATS 38-31.
