The Georgia State Panthers are set to visit Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee for a Week 1 clash against the Tennessee Volunteers. The Georgia State Panthers are looking to rebound after going 2-10, but they will need to replace some key talent on offense. The Panthers will once again return their starting QB Dan Ellington who was responsible for 2119 passing yards, 625 rushing yards, and 17 total TDs. Ellington will need to find a new top target as Penny Hart moved onto the NFL after contributing 669 receiving yards and 2 TDs last year.

The Georgia State Panthers will need to vastly improve on the defense side of the ball if they want to become bowl eligible as they finished 2018 ranked 122nd in points allowed. The Panthers will return their leading tackler from a season ago as Ed Curney is looking to expand off his 2018 success where he contributed 81 tackles. Joining Curney in the middle of the defense is Victory Heyward who was responsible for 48 tackles and 1 interception last year. The Tennessee Volunteers are looking to rebound after going 5-7 during the 2018 season, but they do return some key offensive talent which should lead to more success this year. The Volunteers return their starting QB in Jarrett Guarantano who had a solid 2018 campaign as he threw for 1907 yards, 12 TDs, and 3 interceptions. The ground attack should also be strong once again as Tennessee Ty Chandler contributed 630 yards and 4 TDs while Tim Jordan pitched in 522 yards and 3 TDs, both will return for the Vols.

The Tennessee Volunteers will need to be improved on the defensive side of the ball as they finished the 2018 season ranked 77th in points allowed, but they do return some important starters. The Volunteers bring back their leading tackler from 2018 as Daniel Bituli contributed 79 tackles and 7 TFL from the middle of the defense. The secondary should once again be strong for Tennessee as Bryce Thompson return after contributing 3 interceptions last year.

The Tennessee Volunteers are in dire need of a bowl appearance as they have not made it to the postseason since 2016, but I believe this year will be different. The Volunteers return most of their key pieces on both sides of the ball while Georgia State lost starters from their 2-10 team a season ago. The Tennessee Volunteers should be able to use this game as a nice tune-up, but they will need to be much better on offense as they finished 2018 ranked 110th in points scored. Neyland Stadium should be rocking for their home team as they are one of the most passionate fans in college football, and I expect the Vols to feed off that. Final Score Prediction, Tennessee Volunteers win and cover ATS 40-10.
