Georgia Bulldogs 2019 - 2019 College Football Season Preview & Predictions

Last Updated: 08/21/2019 at 10:27 AM ET

The Georgia Bulldogs will return for the 2019 with Kirby Smith starting his fourth-year as the head coach but with new offensive and defensive coordinators. Smith hired from within to fill the two coaching vacancies opting for continuity rather than big names from another program. The Bulldogs are expected to battle Alabama for the SEC title in 2019.

Offense Jack Fromm returns under center as the top quarterback and much is expected of the signal caller. The offense’s success will ride on how well the offensive line opens holes for the running game and protects Fromm. The line is full of talent with Andrew Thomas at right tackle anchoring the Bulldogs line. Thomas will be joined by Solomon Kindley (left guard), Trey Hill (center), Ben Cleveland (right guard) and Isaiah Wilson (right tackle). All are between 6”4” and 6”7”.

D’Andre Swift is the top returning running back and if Swift can gain big chunks of yards, Fromm’s life becomes easier with the passing game. Zamir White will back up Swift, if he recovers in time from his second ACL tear, and White could become an integral part of the offense. The top three receivers are gone from last season but Demetrius Robertson will lead a group of speedsters and tight ends capable of pass receiving and blocking, including Dominick Blaylock, Tyler Simmons and George Pickens. Defense Georgia’s defense is expected to be one of the nation’s best. An individual superstar has not separated from the pack, but the defense is deeper and better than the two previous seasons. Six players are five-star recruits as well as the top JC recruit Jermaine Johnson, an edge rusher. Nakobe Dean an inside linebacker is being compared to his predecessor Roquan Smith.

The defensive line will have freshman Travon Walker and sophomore Jordan Davis as the anchors. Tyler Clark will be looked upon to improve from a lackluster 2018 season. If any weakness exists defensively it’s in the secondary. J.R. Reed returns at safety and will anchor the defensive backfield, but no other members of the secondary have experience.

Georgia has come close to beating Alabama twice in a row but until the Bulldogs accomplish that feat, Georgia will remain a football program deep in talent but with unfulfilled hopes. The offensive with Jack Fromm under center and D’Andre Swift in the backfield could be one of the nation’s most prolific but although the defense has several five-star recruits the secondary could become the weak link. Projected win total 11
