The #3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium to take on the #2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Both teams have opened there season with three straight wins with Georiga coming in off back to back ranked home wins over #7 Auburn and a 44-21 win over the 14th ranked Tennesee Volunteers. Alabama struggled to get any stops on the defensive end against a scrappy Ole Miss team but was able to put up 63 points and get the win on the road.
The Crimson Tide offense has picked up right where it left off despite losing star QB Tua Tangoluva to the Miami Dolphins, in his place Mac Jones has started off the year completing 79.5% of his passes for 1,100 yards and 8 touchdowns to just one interception. Alabama returned plenty of weapons from last years team including speedster Jalen Waddle who has caught 19 passes for nearly 400 yards and scored 3 touchdowns this season.
The Alabama offense led by junior Mac Jones and a plethora of reloaded and returning weapons benefits from one of the best running backs in the country with senior Najee Harris. Harris is averaging over 6 yards per carry this season and is coming off a game with 206 rush yards and 5 touchdowns against Ole Miss.
Georgia had a quarterback controversy all offseason with 5 star JT Daniels transferring into the program and was assumed to compete for the job against Wake Forest transfer Jamie Newman. Instead, junior Stenson Bennett won the job and doesn’t appear to be giving it up anytime soon. Bennett has been solid through three games this season completing 63% of his passes for 5 touchdowns and has yet to turn the ball over.
Georgia for the last few years has prideded itself on its impressive run game and defense but has struggled to get anything going on the ground this season, averaging just 3.8 yards per carry as a team though three games. The defense however, picked up right where they left off from last years’ #1 ranked scoring defense.
Georgia ranks 1st in the SEC and 5th nationally in scoring defense allowing 12.3 points per game, is second nationally in total defense allowing 236.7 total yards per game and opponents have gained only 38.3 rush yards per game, the best in the nation. The Alabama defense has had a concerning start to the season and is allowing 30.3 points per game to rank 11th in the SEC this season.
Betting Trends for vs
The Alabama offense has not seen a defense that is on par with this Georgia defense but Georiga has also not seen an offense like the one Alabama presents. Alabama comes in with the nations best scoring offense averaging 51 points per game and is totaling an impressive 560.3 yards per game. Georgia’s defense is one of the best in the country and will be able to mitigate a powerful Alabama offense and keep this game close. The run game for Georiga hasn’t been what we expected but Stenson Bennett looks to be a mainstay as an SEC starting quarterback and is able to keep this game close. Final score prediction, Alabama Crimson Tide win but doesn’t cover ATS 42-39.
