The Purdue Boilermakers host the Florida Atlantic Owls on Sept. 24. This is the first time the Boilermakers and Owls will have played each other. Purdue is a 19.5-point favorite.

Florida Atlantic has split its first four games and is also 2-2 against the spread with three of four going UNDER the total. The Owls lost big at Central Florida, 40-14, on Saturday after leading 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and only trailing 16-14 at halftime. FAU was on a 7.5-point underdog is a game that had an O/U of 62.

The Owls opened the season as 6.5-point favorites against Charlotte and won 43-13, 4.5 points UNDER the total. The following week FAU and Ohio lit up the scoreboard to go OVER by 28.5 with the Owls losing 41-38 as six-point favorites. They knocked off Southeast Louisiana in the third game, 42-9, easily covering the 12-point spread while the total was UNDER by 13 points.

Purdue is 1-2 after a 32-29 loss at Syracuse in which it was a slight 1.5-point favorite. The first half was a low-scoring affair, and the Boilermakers led 9-3 at the break. Syracuse led 10-9 at the end of the third quarter before a flurry of scoring in the fourth. Purdue led 15-10 early in the final quarter before giving up a 48-yard TD pass and a two-point conversion to go down by three and a Pick 6 to make it a 10-point deficit.

The Boilermakers got back up by four points after a long TD pass and another from 12 yards out made it 29-25 with just 56 seconds to play. From there Purdue fell apart. The Boilermakers committed two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties that moved the kickoff back to their own 10-yard line. Syracuse returned the kick to midfield. Holding and pass interference penalties by Purdue kept the Syracuse drive going, and the Orange capped it off with a 25-yard TD catch with seven seconds to go. The Boilermakers committed two more unsportsmanlike conduct penalties between the score and kickoff for good measure, sealing the win for the Orange.

Purdue opened the season losing 35-31 at home against Penn State before shutting out Indiana State 56-0. Both games went OVER the projected totals of 53.5 and 54, respectively. Purdue was a 3.5-point underdog against Penn State and a 37-point favorite against Indiana State.

Purdue needs a victory badly this week and should get one without too much difficulty against FAU. The Boilermakers and Owls are not separated by much on offense statistically. FAU has averaged 34.3 points a game to Purdue’s 38.7. The Boilermakers have a slight edge in total offense per game as well with 477.3 to 468.3. Look for Purdue’s defense to limit FAU’s offensive output though as the unit has given up just 285.7 yards a game. The Owls D has been far more porous with 413.5 yards allowed per game. Final Score Prediction: Purdue wins and covers 37-17.
