Eastern Washington at Florida 10/2/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Florida Gators host the Eastern Washington Eagles on Oct. 1. This is the first meeting between Florida and the Football Championship Subdivision team.

Eastern Washington is 1-2 this season after a 38-35 home loss as eight-point underdogs to fellow Big Sky Conference member Montana State. In the previous game, Oregon crushed the Eagles 70-14 despite just a 27.5-point spread. EWU’s only win of the season came in the opener, a 36-29 victory at home against Tennessee State in which the Eagles were 25-point favorites.

Florida is 2-2 overall and against the spread this season. The Gators last game was a 38-30 loss at Tennessee as 11-point underdogs. They failed to cover as 23-point favorites against South Florida at home the previous week, winning 31-28. Kentucky was a six-point underdog at Florida in Week 2 but won 26-16. The Gators opened the season with a 29-26 win against 2.5-point favorite Utah.

Florida’s offense has been led by its 33rd-ranked running game which averaged 195.3 yards a contest. The Gators have thrown for 219 yards a game on average and are scoring 27.3 points per game. Florida is giving up 29.5 points a game and have allowed 437.3 total yards a contest. The defense ranks 111th overall, but the run defense has been particularly ineffective in allowing opponents to gain 216.5 yards per game.

Oregon completed 34-of-41 passes for 341 yards and five touchdowns against Eastern Washington. The Ducks ran the ball 48 times for 263 and four more scores.

This will be an incredibly lopsided game. If it wasn’t bad enough that Eastern Washington’s road trip will take them from one corner of the country to another, they’ll have to play at 9 a.m. Washington time. We’ve seen how that kind of trip can affect NFL teams with, we’re assuming, far better travel accommodations. Final Score Prediction: Florida Gators wins 68-10.
