Eastern Michigan vs Jacksonville State Picks and Prediction – 9/23/2023

The Eastern Michigan Eagles end a short one game homestand Saturday with a game in Jacksonville Alabama against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. Eastern Michigan comes into week 4 playing well after winning two of their first three games following a two point victory over UMass in week three. Offensively Eastern Michigan has averaged 19.3 points on 269.3 yards per game. Defensively the Eagles have had issues allowing 21.6 points on 425 yards per game.

The Eastern Michigan offense did just enough in week 3 scoring 19 points including nine in the fourth quarter on 371 total yards of offense to get the win. Defensively the Eagles had issues giving up seventeen points on 464 yards but forced four turnovers to get the victory. Austin Smith carried the Eastern Michigan offense completing 13 passes for 157 yards and one score in the game.

Jacksonville State returns home Saturday 2-1 on the year following a 14 point loss to Coastal Carolina that ended a long winning streak. JSU had their worst game in recent memory compiling just 393 yards to score 16 total points after turning the ball over one time and failing on both 4th down conversions. Defensively the Gamecocks were outmatched giving up thirty points after Coastal Carolina scored twenty in the second half on nearly 400 total yards. 

Zion Webb was the best player on the field for the Jacksonville State offense completing 9 passes for 150 yards in the game. Logan Smothers completed seven passes for 57 yards and ran the ball six times for 54 yards and one score. Malik Jackson led the team with 73 yards on 18 carries and Perry Carter chipped in a team high 77 yards on two receptions.
