Delaware at Rutgers 9/18/2021 - College Football Picks & Predictions

Rutgers could be in for a battle when it hosts Delaware this weekend. Both teams are 2-0. The Blue Hens of Delaware are No. 6 in the latest FCS poll, and there have been a lot of upsets already in the young season.

Rutgers is led by Noah Vedral, who has passed for 283 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. In two games, Rutgers has not had a turnover. The Scarlett Knights have had a balanced offense so far, averaging 290 passing and 270 rushing. Isaiah Pacheco has 79 yards rushing in two games. Rutgers has seven touchdowns on the ground.

Rutgers is giving up 169 yards per game passing and has three interceptions. The team is holding opponents to under 100 yards rushing. Rutgers has also recovered five fumbles.

Delaware was a semifinalist in FCS playoffs a year ago and has its eyes on a repeat or better.

Nolan Henderson has passed for 521 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Dejoun Lee has rushed for 117 yards and has a 3.9 per carry average. Thyric Pitts has 177 yards receiving and Gene Coleman has 159. Together, they have more than half the receptions the team has and all the touchdowns over two games. Bo Melton has 15 receptions for 103 yards and one score. He has more than twice as many receptions as the second receiver.

Delaware is a passing team, averaging 260 yards per game, and 121 rushing. The Blue Hens gave up 235 yards passing and 91 yards on the ground. Delaware has scored in eight of nine trips inside the red zone.

The strength of the Delaware offense is their passing game, but that plays directly into a powerful Rutgers defense. Look for the defense from Rutgers to shine in this game and that makes it easier for the Scarlet Knights to win this game. Final Score Prediction, Rutgers Scarlet Knights win 31-20.
