The second game of the college football season will feature a matchup between the UConn Huskies and the Fresno State Bulldogs. UConn did not play a game in 2020, choosing to cancel their season due to COVID-19 concerns. The Huskies will return leading WR Cameron Ross, who caught 60 passes two seasons ago. UConn’s running game will feature Kevin Mensah, who rushed for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.
UConn was a disaster on defense during the 2019 season, surrendering 467 yards and 40.5 points on average. Linebackers Omar Fortt (70 tackles) and Jackson Mitchell figure to see plenty of action for the Huskies on defense.
The Fresno State Bulldogs split their six games in 2020 and ranked first in the Mountain West Conference in total offense. Junior QB Jake Haener threw for over 2,000 yards in six starts and has his five top receivers back. Senior RB Ronnie Rivers returns after rushing for 507 yards and seven touchdowns a season ago.
Fresno State must improve on a defense that finished ninth in the conference and surrendered 30 points per contest. Defensive ends Kwami Jones and David Preales totaled nine sacks for a Bulldogs’ defense that ranked third nationally in sacks.
