Colorado State Rams at Michigan Wolverines 9/3/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 08/24/2022 at 9:06 PM ET

The Colorado State Rams visit Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday September 3rd to play the Michigan Wolverines. Last season Colorado State finished 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Mountain West Conference. Colorado will have a new quarterback in Clay Millen who transferred from Nevada following head coach Jay Norvell, who took over the top spot at Colorado State.

Also moving over from Nevada were wide receivers Tory Horton and Melquan Stovall and the two last season combined to catch 108 passes for more than 1,300 yards. Ty McCullouch and Dante Wright are two more wide receivers that will see plenty of action after returning from last season. A’Jon Vivens and Avery Morrow, another transfer from Nevada, will share time as the leading running backs.

Michigan finished first in the Big Ten - East with an overall record 12-2 and an 8-1 record in conference play. Michigan's offense in 2022 will be productive whether Cade McNamara or J.J. McCarthy is the starting quarterback. McNamara is a leader, while McCarthy has a better arm and is a better playmaker. The offensive line has replaced two starters while three starters returned.

Blake Corum, who last season finished with 952 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns, will be the lead running back for Michigan. Donovan Edwards will also see more than his share of action. Leading receiver Ronnie Bell returns after suffering an ACL tear during Week 1 of last season. Cornelius Johnson returns after last season catching 40 passes for 627 yards and three touchdowns, while Roman Wilson is also back and will be joined by three freshmen.

Michigan will open its regular season with a victory at home over Colorado State on September 3rd, but the Rams will play well enough to cover the number. Jay Norvell has taken the reins at Colorado State and brings a high-octane passing game from Nevada that includes quarterback Clay Millen who knows Norvell’s system and will have two former teammates Nevada as his favorite targets. Final Score Prediction, Michigan Wolverines win but fall short ATS 38-27.
