Clemson vs Georgia Tech 9/5/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 08/24/2022 at 9:01 PM ET

The Clemson Tiger open the 2022 season on the road in Atlanta against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Monday September, 5th. Clemson had a down year in 2021 after finishing the year 10-3 after a win in the Cheez-It Bowl against Iowa State. Clemson will return a host of players from a year ago including quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Uiagalelei struggled in his first full season as the Clemson starter and the team will go as far as he can take them in 2022.

Clemson also returns a plethora of talent in the back field to help the young quarterback led by WIll Shipley and Kobe Pace. Shipley is a do it all type back that will chew up yards on the ground and serve as a safety blanket in the passing game. Receiver Beaux Collins is expected to emerge as a big time play maker, while tight end Davis Allen has the tools to be the best Tight end in the ACC.

Defensively Clemson will be led by a new coordinator this season but has the depth and talent to be one of the top units in the nation. Clemson has so much depth and talent up front that the 2022 defensive line will be one of the best in Clemson history. Myles Murphy will be a huge presence on the end and Tyler Davis is expected to blow up the middle of the field for Clemson, while an elite group of linebackers and DB's cover the field for the Tigers.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets come into 2022 after an abysmal 3-9 year and look to be much improved heading into this season. Quarterback Jeff Sims is expected to lead the way for the Yellow Jackets all year as a dual threat with multiple years of experience.

Sims will have several different weapons on offense led by potential pro Malachi Carter who will look to improve on his near 500 yard season from a year ago. Tech also added receiver Hassan Hall and running back Dylan McDuffie through the transfer portal as both are expected to be on the field for opening night.

The defensive side of the ball is the biggest weakness for Tech after allowing over 450+ yards per game a year ago. After ranking in the bottom half of the ACC a year ago the Yellow Jackets also lost a host of key players on the defense and will need young players to fill the void. Defensively Georgia Tech will struggle early and will rely on Noah Collins and Kyle Kennard to lead the way up front.

The Clemson Tigers are by far the better team in this matchup and it will show from the opening kick off. Look for the talent and depth of the Tigers to overwhelm Georgia Tech throughout the game as the Tigers coast to a 1-0 season start. Take Clemson to open the year in blow out fashion as they win and cover in Atlanta. Final Score Prediction, Clemson wins and covers 41-10.
