California at BYU 9/8/18 - College Football Picks & Predictions

On Saturday night, the California Golden Bears visit LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah to play the BYU Cougars in Week 2 of the college football regular season.

Cal was victorious in its opener 24-17 over North Carolina. Patrick Laird ran for one touchdown and caught another, while the California defense intercepted four passes and held North Carolina to just a field goal for three quarters. However, on offense things were not as smooth as coaches would have preferred as the three-quarterback rotation got off to a shaky start. The Bears passed for just 119 yards in the game.

BYU won its season opener with a 28-23 victory over the Arizona Wildcats. Squally Canada scored three touchdowns on the ground and quarterback Tanner Mangum successfully returned from last season’s Achilles injury. The Cougars defense was superb at containing duel threat quarterback Khalil Tate holding the signal caller to just 14 yards rushing. Ross Bowers leads Cal in passing with 56 yards. Chase Garbers has 54 yards passing and one touchdown. The Bears are led in rushing by Patrick Laird with 95 yards and one touchdown. Jordan Duncan is the leading receiver with three receptions for 34 yards. The one receiving touchdown was caught by Laird.

Tanner Magnum leads the Cougars in passing with 209 yards and one touchdown. Squally Canada is the leading rusher with 98 yards and three touchdowns. Aleva Hifo leads the Cougars in receiving with 36 yards. Matt Bushman is the only receiver with a touchdown as he caught a 24-yard pass from Mangum.
