BYU at South Florida 9/3/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The BYU Cougars come into the 2021 season following a 10 win year in 2021. Offensively BYU had one of the better offenses in the nation last year as they finished 29th overall in scoring. Quarterback Jaren Hall will be back under center for the Cougars this season after passing for over 2500 yards and 20 scores a year ago. Hall comes into the 2022 season with one of the best offensive lines the BYU program has ever put together to protect him.

BYU also will rely on an elite set of running backs as Puka Nacua and Gunner Romney combined for 9 scores and 1300 + yards a year ago. BYU has a good group of receivers that will be led by tight end Isaac Rex who can lead the way for the running backs as a blocker as well as form a safety blanket for his QB in the passing game.

Defensively BYU struggled at times last year allowing nearly 400 yards and 25 points per game period the focus this year will be pressure up front coming from the defensive line to allow an elite group of linebackers to lead the team. Keenan Pili and Payton Willgar will return for BYU this season to lead the team on defense.

The South Florida Bulls come into 2022 looking to improve the program on a 2-10 record from  a year ago. South Florida averages just over 350 yards and 23 points per game a year ago as the ground attack led the way all season. Quarterback Timmy McLain is going to be relied upon heavily to turn a new leaf and propel South Florida this season.

Xavier Weaver will again be the primary target in the South Florida offense after reeling in a team leading 41 catches a year ago. Two of the biggest weapons for South Florida this season are coming via the transfer as Gerry Bohanon Joins the bulls from Baylor after throwing for over 2000 yards and 18 touchdowns a year ago and Ajou Ajou joining the offense from Clemson.

Defensively South Florida was terrible a year ago ranking in the lower half of the country after allowing 476 yards and 35 points per game. South Florida has made several moves on the defensive side of the ball, but linebackers Antonio Greier and Dwayne Boyles will be the defensive leaders this season for the Bulls.
