Bryant at Florida International 9/1/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 08/28/2022 at 12:43 PM ET

In Thursday night college football action, the Bryant Bulldogs will travel to Riccardo Silva Stadium to face the Florida International Panthers. The FCS Bulldogs (7-4) won five of their seven conference games and lost at Akron by 21 points in their only contest against FBS competition. Bryant possesses a balanced offensive attack that averaged 379 yards and 30 points per game in 2021.

The Bulldogs struggled to hold up against the run and allowed opponents to rush for 4.9 yards per carry. The Bryant defense forced 17 turnovers and recorded 19 sacks.

The Florida International Panthers started last season with a win over Long Island and finished the year on an 11-game losing streak. The Panthers have lost 17 of their last 18 games overall and hired former Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre to oversee a major rebuilding effort. Florida International’s running game was awful, but WR Tyrese Chambers (1,074 yds, 9 TD) returns to bolster a capable passing attack.

New defensive coordinator Jovan Dewitt can be positive in knowing that the unit can only go up. That is because the Florida International defense ranked third worst nationally in total defense and surrendered 39.7 points per game.

Bryant was one of the best turnover margin teams at the FCS level and Florida International was one of the worst in that department. The Panthers are expected to start Duke transfer QB Gunnar Holmberg, who has thrown 10 interceptions and seven touchdowns in his career. Take the Bulldogs and the points. Final Score Prediction, Florida International Panthers win 27-24.
