Army at Western Kentucky 10/12/19 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The Army Black Knights are set to visit Houchens-Smith Stadium in Bowling Green, Kentucky for a Week 7 clash against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The Army Black Knights come into this matchup with a 3-2 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent home game against the Tulane Green Wave, 42-33. QB Kelvin Hopkins Jr. struggled to get much going through the air for the Black Knights as he connected on 9 of his 24 pass attempts for 170 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception, but he was able to have a big game on the ground with 132 rushing yards and 2 TDs. WR Camden Harrison was the top target for Hopkins and Army as he hauled in 5 catches for 103 yards and a TD.

The Army Black Knights struggled on the defensive side of the ball against the Tulane Green Wave as they allowed them to score 42 points and rack up a total of 525 yards of offense. Senior DB Ryan Velez led the way for the Army defense with 12 tackles, 1.5 TFL, and a sack. Sophomore DB Malkelm Morrison had a productive game from the secondary for the Black Knights as he racked up 10 tackles, 1 pass deflection, and half a TFL.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers come into this matchup with a 3-2 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent road game against the Old Dominion Monarchs, 20-3. QB Ty Storey wasn’t asked to do much through the air for the Hilltoppers as he connected on 21 of his 28 pass attempts for 193 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception. RB Gaej Walker had a big game on the ground for Western Kentucky as he racked up 114 yards and a TD on 25 carries.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were very good on the defensive side of the ball as they held the Old Dominion Monarchs to 3 points and a total of 163 yards of offense. Junior DL DeAngelo Malone had a big game for the Western Kentucky defense as he contributed 9 tackles, 4 TFL, and 3 sacks. The secondary had a productive game for the Hilltoppers as Devon Key pitched in 2 pass deflections while Ta’Corian Darden hauled in the lone interception of the game.

The Army Black Knights don’t lose often as they are one of the most disciplined teams in the nation, and I expect them to rebound here on the road. The Black Knights were playing from behind for most of the game against the Tulane Green Wave which put them out of their traditional triple-option run offense. The Black Knights have a very good QB under center in Kelvin Hopkins Jr. and he has shown the ability to run the ball effectively this season. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have been solid on the defensive side of the ball this season, but they haven’t seen an offense of Army’s caliber and scheme which will cause problems. Final Score Prediction, Army Black Knights win and cover ATS 28-17.
