Alabama State at UCLA 9/10/22 - College Football Picks & Predictions

The UCLA Bruins host the Alabama State Hornets on Sept. 10. This is the first meeting between these two teams. Alabama State will be the first team among the Historically Black Colleges and Universities to play UCLA. The Hornets, a Division I Football Championship Subdivision team competing in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, will also be the first non-Football Bowl Subdivision team to play the Bruins.  

The Bruins won their season opener against Bowling Grean, 45-17. UCLA had 626 yards of total offense including 298 yards passing and 87 rushing from quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Thompson-Robinson ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more. The leading rusher was Zach Charbonnet with 21 carries for 111 yards and a score. Kazmeir Allen led UCLA receivers with 10 receptions for 85 yards and a TD. The Bruins’ defense held Bowling Grean to just 162 yards in the game.

The Hornets are 2-0 after beating Howard, 23-13, in the season opener and Miles College, 21-13, on Saturday. Alabama State was 5-6 in 2021, fourth in the SWAC’s East Division. Sophomore quarterback Myles Crawley completed 9 of 18 passes for 162 yards, one touchdown and one interception against Miles. Crawley came on in relief of Dematrius Davis who left with an injury during Alabama State’s second drive of the game.
