The Alabama Crimson Tide will hope to secure the SEC West Championship when they go on the road to Jordan-Hare Stadium to take on Auburn for the Iron Bowl. Alabama had an earlier season slipup to Texas A&M but has since rattled off five straight wins after surviving last week at home against Arkansas 42-35. Auburn has lost three straight games after a hot start to their year, and after an upset loss to South Carolina dropped to 6-5 (3-4 conference).

Auburn also lost starting quarterback Bo Nix for the year and will have to trot out sophomore TJ Finley. The Auburn offense has primarily relied on the run game this season anyway, but Finley played well in the loss to South Carolina going 17.32 for 188 yards and a touchdown. Auburn is a middle-of-the-pack offense in the SEC averaging 427.8 yards and 30.3 points per game and will almost no doubt fair worse with the backup quarterback.

The Auburn defense has been one of the better in the SEC allowing just 22 points per game, which ranks fourth but has had some issues stopping the pass ranking 11th and allowing 235.9 passing yards per game. The secondary will have their hands full with the passing attack of Alabama and allowed 415 passing yards in a loss two weeks ago to Mississippi State.

Alabama continues to reload year after year and this year has been no different despite trotting out sophomore quarterback Bryce Young. Young is right in the mix for the Heisman throwing for 3,584 yards and 38 touchdowns to just three interceptions. Alabama is a high-powered offense averaging over 500 yards and per game and scoring 44.4 points per game, ranking in the top-10 nationally in both.

Alabama’s defense has been solid allowing 306.5 yards and 19.7 points per game but they have shown susceptibility to some breakout games from opposing teams. Arkansas racked up 468 yards and 35 points last week, Texas A&M had 41 points and 379 yards in the loss earlier, but the problems may not present themselves against the backup Auburn quarterback.

Auburn Tigers +20.5

This is simply a principal bet for me, a home team getting nearly 3 touchdowns in a rivalry game is too many points. This isn’t the Alabama of previous years that is winning all of their games by 40+, they’ve had close games against inferior teams and I think they’re gonna take the best punch Auburn has in the Iron Bowl. It’s been tough for Alabama to play at Jordan-Hare Stadium and this is no different, Alabama gets the win but give me Auburn to keep it close. Final score prediction, Alabama wins but Auburn covers ATS 38-28.
