2020 Sun Belt Conference Football Preview - Odds, Picks, & Betting Predictions

Although there is still over three months to wait for the opening kickoff of the 2020 college football regular season, oddsmakers continue to adjust their futures boards for the different conferences across the country. The odds makers recently released updated odds for the Sun Belt Conference 2020 football season and have the Appalachian State Mountaineers as the -125 favorites to win the title.

Appalachian State has won each of the last two Sun Belt Conference titles and last season lost just one game at home to Georgia Southern and finished a very respectable 19th in the final AP Poll. The Mountaineers will start their third straight season with a new head coach as Eli Drinkwitz moved on to coach the Missouri Tigers and Sean Clark, who was an assistant coach for four years, takes the helm.

Appalachian State’s two top skills players returning are quarterback Zach Thomas and his favorite target wide receiver Thomas Hennigan, while the defense will have top players defensive tackle Demetrius Taylor and cornerback Sean Jolly returning to anchor that side of the line of scrimmage. Thomas is an excellent passer and does not try to throw into coverage and knows when to leave the pocket and run the ball. Each of the top four wide receivers from last year return making the Mountaineers offense dangerous against any opposing defense.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns have the second best odds of winning the Sun Belt title at +200. The top players returning for the Ragin’ Cajuns are quarterback Levi Lewis, running back Elijah Mitchell, running back Trey Ragas, and wide receiver Jamal Bell on the offense, while linebacker Joe Dillon and cornerback Eric Garror are the top defensive players returning from last season. Lewis threw for 3,050 yards and Mitchetl and Ragas rushed for a combined 1,967 yards and 27 TDs.

The Troy Trojans  have the third best odds of winning the Sun Belt Conference in 2020 at +600. Troy will have running back DK Billingsley and wide receiver Caitlin Geiger returning as their top offensive players while linebacker Carlton Martial and defensive tackle William Choloh, Jr. will be the top returning defensive players for a team that finished 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Sun Belt. Troy must replace quarterback Caleb Barker as well as three All-Sunbelt linemen. The defense will be the stalwart for the Trojans and will keep the team in many games hoping the offense can come through late.

The odds to win the conference title for the remaining seven teams in the Sun Belt Conference are Arkansas State at +1200, Georgia Southern at +1400, Georgia State at +2500, Coastal Carolina at +5000, Southern Alabama at +5000, UL-Monroe at +5000 and Texas State at +10000.

Appalachian State is the -125 favorite to win the 2020 Sun Belt Conference, but the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (+200) have an explosive offense and a defense that will hold most opponents in check, giving Louisiana an inside track to winning the conference title. Louisiana has quarterback Levi Lewis returning who threw for over 3,000 yards and two running backs that combined to rush for 1,927 yards and 27 touchdowns. In December, the Ragin’ Cajuns will be crowned the Sun Belt Conference champions.
