2020 Heisman Trophy - Betting Odds & Predictions

The Heisman Trophy is the most coveted individual award in college football. The award is given to the all round top player but there is much more involved than just statistics. Although the winner must produce ridiculously high numbers, he also must win at least one if not two important games and his team must be in the running for a spot in the end of the season college football playoff.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is considered by oddsmakers as the favorite to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy. Fields led the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record last season and an appearance in the college football playoff. Fields threw for 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns and only three interceptions, while also rushing for 484 yards and 10 touchdowns. As well as being a finalist for last year's Heisman Trophy, Fields took home several other individual awards.

Trevor Lawrence from the Clemson Tigers is expected to be in the running once again for the 2020 Heisman Trophy. In 2019, Lawrence threw for 3,665 yards, 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 563 yards and 9 TDs. Lawrence helped lead the Tigers to their second straight national title game appearance. Lawrence was hurt last season in the Heisman Trophy race by a slow start but is expected to lead another talented Tigers team to another CFP appearance.

Spencer Rattler will be the new starting quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners and although the inexperienced Rattler has yet to start a game as a collegiate he is one of the favorites to win the Heisman in 2020. Rattler takes over the starting job for the departed Jalen Hurts and saw just limited action during three games in 2019 passing for 81 yards and one touchdown. Rattler was a five star recruit from Arizona as a pro-style quarterback in 2018.

Jamie Newman, a senior quarterback with the Georgia Bulldogs is expected to battle for the 2020 Heisman Trophy. Newman is a transfer from Wake Forest where last season QB threw for 2,868 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In addition, Newman rushed for 574 yards with six touchdowns. Georgia is expected to have another excellent defense and with Newman under center the Bulldogs are expected to battle for a shot at the SEC title and a college football playoff appearance.

Travis Etienne is the only non-quarterback expected to have a solid shot at winning the Heisman Trophy in 2020. The Clemson Tigers running back opted to forgo the NFL draft and return for a final college football season. In 43 games played with the Tigers, Etienne has started 40 while accumulating 4,038 yards rushing with 56 touchdowns and catching 54 passes for 567 yards and six TDs.

The Heisman Trophy award is not just about who the best individual player in college football is. The Heisman winner must have very strong numbers, be a team leader, play well under pressure, and be a part of a college football program that is battling to appear in the college football playoff. This season that player will be Justin Fields from the Ohio State Buckeyes. Fields combines a strong arm with an excellent pair of legs to make him one of the top dual-threat QB's in the nation.
