2020 Big 12 Conference Football Preview - Odds, Picks, & Betting Predictions

When oddsmakers released the opening odds for the Big 12 Conference football bettors around the country were not surprised the Oklahoma Sooners were picked as the early favorites at -150 to win a sixth consecutive conference title. The Texas Longhorns have the second best odds at +150 and are the only other member of the Big 12 that oddsmakers believe has a chance to unseat the Sooners.

Oklahoma finished last season with a record of 12-2 and played in its third consecutive College Football Playoff. In three seasons under the tutelage of head coach Lincoln Riley the Sooners are 36-6 and have had two quarterbacks in the last three seasons win the Heisman Trophy including Baker Mayfield in 2017 and Kyler Murray in 2018. Jalen Hurts was second in the Heisman voting last season behind LSU's Joe Burrow.

Spencer Rattler will be the new starting quarterback for the Sooners and is considered one of the top recruits from the 2019 class but saw little action last season behind Hurts. Rattler will have receivers Theo Wease and Jadon Haselwood who both as sophomores and will start for the Sooners after combining as freshman to catch 27 passes in 2019. The Oklahoma defense has three new players to help make a mediocre defense solid.

Head coach Tom Herman of the Texas Longhorns has a record of 25-15 since joining the Longhorns to start the 2017 season, but last season was a disappointing 8-5. Oddsmakers however believe Texas has an opportunity to unseat the Sooners in 2020. The Longhorns ended their 2019 season with a 38-10 victory in the Alamo Bowl over the Utah Utes and 17 starters return from that team. Star quarterback Sam Ehlinger returns for his senior season after throwing for 3,663 yards, 32 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season for the Longhorns

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have the third best odds to win the Big 12 Conference title in 2020 at +600.  Oklahoma State's star on offense is Chuba Hubbard who last season rushed for 2,094 yards and 21 touchdowns when the Cowboys finished 8-5. Hubbard opted not to enter the NFL draft and return to play for the Cowboys. Spencer Sanders will be the starting quarterback and as a freshman threw for 2,065 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Iowa State (+1200) is considered longshot to win the 2020 Big 12 championship. The Cyclones were 7-6 last season and return just 12 of their 22 starters including quarterback Brock Purdy, running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Tarique Milton. The biggest hole on offense to fill for Iowa State will be the loss of four starting linemen.

The Oklahoma Sooners have not been given the label as Big 12 favorites for nothing. The Sooners will have an excellent quarterback in Spencer Rattler, plenty of weapons at receiver for Rattler to throw to and a solid running game that will keep opposing defenses off-balance. Even without a strong defense, at season’s end, Oklahoma will be sitting atop the Big 12 standings and win its sixth straight conference title.
