Virginia Tech vs UNC 3/10/20 - College Basketball Picks & Predictions

The North Carolina Tar Heels and Virginia Tech Hokies are set to visit Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina for an ACC 1st round clash. The North Carolina Tar Heels come into this matchup with a 13-18 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the Duke Blue Devils, 89-76. Leading the way for the North Carolina Tar Heels was junior forward Garrison Brooks as he recorded 26 points and 13 rebounds. Joining Brooks in the frontcourt was freshman forward Armando Bacot who had a productive outing for the Tar Heels as he pitched in 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The North Carolina Tar Heels struggled shooting the ball against the Duke Blue Devils as they connected on 29 of their 71 field goal attempts (40.8%), and they were slightly worse from behind the three-point line (33.3%). The North Carolina Tar Heels won the turnover battle against the Duke Blue Devils (12-9), and they edged out the Blue Devils in the rebounding department (38-37).

The Virginia Tech Hokies come into this matchup with a 16-15 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent road game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 64-56. Leading the way for the Virginia Tech Hokies was junior forward P.J. Horne as he recorded 14 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman guard Hunter Cattoor had a productive outing off the bench for the Hokies as he pitched in 12 points and 4 rebounds.

The Virginia Tech Hokies struggled shooting the ball against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as they connected on 21 of their 58 field goal attempts (36.2%), and they were slightly worse from behind the three-point line (31.3%). The Virginia Tech Hokies won the turnover battle against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (16-9), but they were dominated by the Fighting Irish in the rebounding department (44-27).

The North Carolina Tar Heels are having one of their worst seasons in program history as they went 6-14 in ACC play, but this is still an extremely talented team that should take advantage of a Virginia Tech team that has dropped 5 of their last 6 games. Virginia Tech has really struggled to score the basketball in ACC games as they are only averaging 65.2 PPG, but their biggest problem will be defending the North Carolina frontcourt as their tallest starter stands at 6’7. Garrison Brooks has been one of the few consistent pieces for Roy Williams as he is averaging 18.8 PPG and 8.9 RPG, but we can’t forget about future lottery pick Cole Anthony as he is pitching in 20.5 PPG and 5.5 RPG. The Tar Heels will need to be better on the defensive side of the court which was evident in their recent game (89 points to Duke), but Virginia Tech doesn’t have enough scoring punch to match UNC. Final Score Prediction, North Carolina Tar Heels win and cover ATS 75-68.
