Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh 2/3/21 - College Basketball Picks & Predictions

The Virginia Tech Hokies are set to visit the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for an ACC clash against the Pittsburgh Panthers. The Virginia Tech Hokies come into this matchup with a 13-3 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent home game against the Virginia Cavaliers, 65-51. Leading the way for the Virginia Tech Hokies was junior forward Keve Aluma as he recorded 29 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Hunter Cattoor had a productive outing off the bench for the Hokies as he pitched in 15 points.

The Virginia Tech Hokies had a good shooting game against the Virginia Cavaliers as they connected on 22 of their 44 field goal attempts (50%), and they were very good from behind the three-point line (50%). The Virginia Tech Hokies lost the turnover battle against the Virginia Cavaliers (12-9), but they edged out the Cavaliers in the rebounding department (30-24).

The Pittsburgh Panthers come into this matchup with an 8-5 record, and they will be looking to rebound after dropping their recent home game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 84-58. Leading the way for the Pittsburgh Panthers was sophomore forward Justin Champagnie as he recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Ithiel Horton had a productive outing for the Panthers as he pitched in 9 points.

The Pittsburgh Panthers struggled shooting the ball against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as they connected on 23 of their 73 field goal attempts (31.5%), and they were even worse from behind the three-point line (30.8%). The Pittsburgh Panthers lost the turnover battle against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-7), but they edged out the Fighting Irish in the rebounding department (40-37).

This is a perfect opportunity to fade a ranked team off an emotional win over their in-state rival as they will have to take on a good Pittsburgh team who was just slashed by 28 points at home. The Pittsburgh Panthers might have the ACC player of the year on their hands with Justin Champagnie as he is averaging 20.1 PPG and 12.1 RPG, but in order for the Panthers to be successful they need to receive scoring from Xavier Johnson and Au’Diese Toney who both average over 13 PPG. The Virginia Tech Hokies are a very good defensive team which was proven in their recent game against Virginia as they held them to 51 points, but the Panthers play an up and down style which won’t allow the Hokies to set their half-court defense. Final Score Prediction, Pittsburgh Panthers win and cover ATS 69-67.
