The NIT second round will take place on Sunday evening as the Virginia Cavaliers visit Denton, TX to take on the North Texas Mean Green. Virginia comes into Sunday following a 3 point win over Mississippi State in round one of the tournament. Offensively Virginia shot the ball well making 50% of their shots to score 60 points in the game including 33 in the second half to maintain the victory.
Jaylen Gardner had one of his best games as of late leading the way with 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting in 36 minutes on the floor for Virginia. Reece Beekman added 14 points and six assists and big man Francisco Caffaro chipped in eight points and five rebounds to lead the way off the bench.
The North Texas Mean Green will play their second consecutive home game on Sunday night after a round one win over Texas State. North Texas beat Texas State 67-63 in overtime after shooting 40.4% from the floor and 37.9% from beyond the yard. Mardrez McBride led all scorers for North Texas with 24 points on 8 of 18 shooting.
Offensively this season North Texas has four players averaging double figures led by Tylor Perry scoring 13.5 points per game on 42.4% shooting. Thomas Bell is second on the team scoring 12.5 points per game to go along with a team high 6.9 rebounds and a team leading 2.5 assists.
