The UNC Greensboro Spartans travel on the road to Timmons Arena to take on the Furman Paladins. The Spartans have won four straight games and are fresh off of a road win over Charlotte, winning 74-66 to improve to 10-5 on the year. Furman has dropped two straight on the road, the first a 1-point loss to VMI and the latter a 71-62 loss to East Tennessee to drop to 10-5 on the year.

UNC Greensboro is a solid team on both ends and comes in averaigng 73.2 points per game ranking 150th in scoring offense. The Spartans have especially struggled from three making just 27.8% of their shots from beyond the arc, the 332nd ranked three-point shooting offense.

A large chunk of the Spartans scoring and playmaking comes from senior guard Isiah Miller. The Southern POY last season, Miller has seen his shooting numbers dip but is putting up a team-high 18.1 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounding with 7 and assists with 3.8. Junior forward Angelo Allegri is averaging 9.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Furman is an offensive force in the Southern Conference averaging an impressive 83.4 points per game ranking 17th in the country in scoring offense. The Paladins have shot an impressive 49.4% from the field and return 74.6% of their scoring from last year’s second-place conference finish.

Three players have contributed a majority of the Furman scoring with junior Mike Bothwell leading the way with 18.3 points and is second on the team with 3.5 assists per game. Senior forward Clay Mounce is the team’s leading rebounder with 6 per game and adds 15.4 points and rounding out the big three is junior forward Noah Gurley, he’s averaging 14 points and 4.9 boards per game.

Furman comes in allowing 69.6 points per game on the defensive end ranking 162nd in the country in scoring defense. Opponents are shooting 43.8% from the field and the Paladins are 165th in KenPom adjusted defense. UNC Greensboro is allowing 67.4 points per game ranking 104th in scoring defense and opposing teams are shooting 40.8% from the field. The Spartans are 96th in KenPom adjusted defense.

UNC Greensboro doesn’t match up well offensively with the potent Furman offense but they have won four in a row and behind a solid effort defensively I like them to keep this game close. Furman has dropped two in a row, albeit against good teams and although they get the win at home, the Spartans are able to keep this game close and cover the spread. Final score prediction, Furman wins but doesn’t cover ATS 72-70.
