On Tuesday, the St. John’s Red Storm visits Finneran Pavilion in Villanova, Pennsylvania to play the Villanova Wildcats. The Red Storm improved to 14-1 on the season following a 97-94 overtime win over Georgetown. The win was St. John’s first in Georgetown in the last 14 games. Shamorie Ponds led the Red Storm with 37 points and five assists.
Villanova improved its record to 11-4 overall following its 65-59 win over Providence to move to 2-0 in Big East play. The Wildcats were led by Phil Booth with 23 points. Booth scored each of Villanova’s last five points over the final 8-plus minutes of the game as the Wildcats held off a Providence rally.
Shamorie Ponds leads St. John’s in scoring and assists with averages of 20.4 points and 6.0 assists per game. Four other players for the Red Storm are averaging double figures in scoring. LJ Figueroa leads the team in rebounding with an average of 6.9 per game. St. John’s is shooting 48.9% from the field and 40.2% from 3-point territory.
Phil Booth leads the Wildcats in scoring and assists with averages of 17.3 points and 3.5 assists per game. Eric Paschall is the second leading scorer and second in rebounds with averages of 15.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree leads the Wildcats in rebounds with an average of 7.1 per game. Villanova is shooting 44.8% from the field and 34.7% from 3-point territory.
