The South Dakota Coyotes visit Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas on Tuesday to play the No. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks. The Coyotes are 6-5 on the season following a 68-63 win over Colorado State on Sunday. Stanley Umude led a balanced attack by the Coyotes with 15 points. The win was South Dakota’s second straight.
Kansas remained unbeaten at 9-0 after defeating Villanova 74-71 in a rematch of last season’s Final 4 in which Villanova won. Dedric Lawson led the Jayhawks with 28 points and 12 boards, while Lagerald Vick had a team-high 29 points. The Jayhawks were able to make enough of their free throws late in the game to hold off Villanova.
Trey Burch-Manning leads South Dakota ins scoring and rebounding with averages of 13.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Cody Kelley is the leader in assists for the Coyotes with an average of 3.6 per game. South Dakota is shooting 43.7% from the field and 30.2% from 3-point territory.
Dedric Lawson leads Kansas in scoring, rebounding and assists with averages of 20.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Udoka Azubuike is the third leading scorer with an average of 12.9 points per game, but is out injured indefinitely. Kansas is shooting 48.5% from the field and 37.3% from 3-point territory.
