The South Carolina State Bulldogs will open the MEAC tournament Thursday night with a game against the Morgan State Bears. South Carolina State finished the season on a skid riding a three game losing streak following a five point loss to North Carolina Central in the last game of the year. Offensively South Carolina State was abysmal in the last game of the season making only 33.9% of their shots in 36% from beyond the arc to score 62 points in the game.
TJ Madlock was the biggest spark in the South Carolina State offense posting a team high 23 points in 37 minutes. Rashaan Edwards added 13 points as the only other player in double figures and Rakeim Gary scored a team high six points off the bench.
The Morgan State Bears are one game below .500 coming into the conference tournament despite riding a four game win streak to end the regular season. Morgan State beat Coppin State in the final game of the season after holding the Eagles 33.9% shooting in the game. Sherwyn Devonish led the way for the Morgan State starters with 10 points in 29 minutes on the floor.
Offensively this season Morgan State has been one of the better teams in the conference averaging 75.7 points per game on 43.7% shooting as a team. De’Torrion Ware leads the team averaging 10.9 points per game on 34.9% shooting. Lagio Grantsaan chips in 10.7 points and a team high 5.9 rebounds.
