Last Updated: 02/26/2022 at 10:54 PM ET

The SMU Mustangs are on the road Sunday with a visit to Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas for an American Athletic Conference clash with the No. 14 ranked Houston Cougars. SMU improved to 20-6 overall and 11-3 in AAC play following its 75-61 victory over Tulsa on Wednesday. SMU is second in the AAC, just one game behind first place Houston Cougars, making Sunday's matchup all that more important.

Kendric Davis is leading SMU in scoring and assists with averages of 19.3 points and 4.7 assists per game, while Marcus Weathers is the second leading scorer and leading rebounder with averages of 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. SMU has four players averaging in double-figures in scoring and as a team is scoring an average of 74.9 points per game. The Mustangs are shooting 45.3% overall and 37.0% from 3-point territory.

Houston improved to 23-4 overall and an AAC-leading 12-2 with an 81-67 victory over Tulane on Wednesday. Kyler Edwards was the leading scorer for Houston with 21 points including 14 in the second half when the Cougars pulled away. Houston has won each of its last three and 15 of the last 17. A victory by Houston would give the Cougars a two-game lead over SMU with only free games remaining on the schedule.

Kyler Edwards is leading Houston in scoring with an average of 13.8 points per game, while Joshua Carlton is the leading rebounder with an average of 6.6 rebounds per game and Jamal Shead is the leader in assists with an average of 5.6 assists per game. Houston has five players averaging double-figures in scoring and as a team the Cougars are scoring an average of 76.3 points per game. Houston is shooting 46.7% overall and 34.8% from three-point territory.

Houston will look to avenge an earlier loss to SMU of 85-83 on February 9. The Cougars have struggled to cover the number, failing to cover six of the last 10, while SMU has covered the number in four of its last five. Houston will play well enough to pick up the victory on its home court Saturday but the Mustangs will keep the score close enough to cover for the second time this season against the Cougars.  Final Score Prediction, Houston Cougars win but fall short ATS 66-64.
