The Saint Peter’s Peacocks are set to visit Carnescca Arena in Queens, New York for a season-opening clash against the St. John’s Red Storm. The Saint Peter’s Peacocks enjoyed a very good 2019-2020 season as they finished with an 18-12 record with a 2nd place finish in the MAAC. The Peacocks didn’t have a single guy average over 10 PPG last season, but they had a ton of scoring depth as they had 8 guys with at least 5 PPG, and they only graduated one of those guys. The Peacocks are hoping that KC Ndefo takes another step forward for them as he averaged 8.5 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 2.4 BPG.

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks struggled to score the basketball during the 2019-2020 season as they ranked 301st in the country in team scoring as they averaged 66.3 PPG. The Saint Peter’s Peacocks were the complete opposite on the defensive side of the court as they ranked 37th in the country in points allowed as they held their opponents to an average of 64.1 PPG.

The St. John’s Red Storm will be looking to improve on their 2019-2020 campaign as they finished with a 17-15 record which landed them in 8th place in the Big East. St. John’s will need to replace their leading scorer from a season ago in LJ Figueroa as he averaged 14.5 PPG and 4.5 RPG. The Red Storm are expecting Rasheem Dunn (11.9 PPG) and Julian Champagnie (9.9 PPG, 6.5 RPG) to step up their production from a season ago.

The St. John’s Red Storm were solid at scoring the basketball during the 2019-2020 season as they ranked 87th in the country in team scoring as they averaged 74.6 PPG. The Red Storm struggled on the defensive side of the court last season as they ranked 241st in points allowed as they allowed an average of 71.6 PPG.

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks were very competitive in the MAAC last season as they were strong on the defensive side of the court with production throughout their lineup. The St. John’s Red Storm will need to figure out how to replace LJ Figueroa as he was a vital piece of how they operated on the offensive side of the court. Saint Peter’s has a very good forward with KC Ndefo who should control the paint, and the Peacocks will try and force St. John’s to shoot three-pointers which was one of the downfalls for the high-scoring Red Storm. The Peacocks held their opponents to an average of 64.1 PPG last season, and I expect them to continue with their defensive mindset this year. Final Score Prediction, St. John’s Red Storm win but fail to cover ATS 70-65.
