Day two of the Conference USA championship will take place in Frisco, TX as the Rice Owls take on the Charlotte 49ers. Rice comes into the conference championship struggling after losing four of the last five games played this season including two in a row following an 11 point loss to UTSA. Defensively right struggled against UTSA as the Roadrunners made 51.7% of their shots and 48.1% from beyond the arc to score 82 total points in 40 minutes.
Offensively Rice shot the ball well making 47.1% of their shots and 42.9% from beyond the arc but turned the ball over 20 times leading to the loss. Carl Pierre led the way for the Rice offense as one of five starters in double figures with 16 points in 36 minutes. Terrance McBride chipped in 12 points and Max Fiedler added 11 points and a team high 10 rebounds. Travis Evee and Chris Mullin chipped in 10 points each.
The Charlotte 49ers enter the conference tournament after finishing the season four games over .500 riding a two game win streak. Charlotte ended the regular season with a 70-67 win over Southern Miss after shooting 49.1% from the floor. Jahmir Young led all scorers for Charlotte against Southern Miss with 21 points in 38 minutes on the floor.
The Charlotte offense has been mediocre this season averaging 70.3 points per game on 46.5% shooting as a team. Jahmir Young is the leading scorer for Charlotte eaveraging 19.8 points per game to go along with a team high 6 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Austin Butler is second on the team averaging 12.5 points and Clyde Trapp chips in 8.9 points on 41.9% shooting.
