Purdue Fort Wayne at Kent State 11/30/20 - College Basketball Picks & Predictions

On Monday, the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons visit M. A. C. Center in Kent, Ohio to play the Kent State Golden Flashes. Purdue Fort Wayne opened the season with a 67-63 victory over Southeastern Louisiana. The leading scorer for the Mastodons was Jalon Pipkins with 18 points. Purdue Fort Wayne shot 47.7% from the floor and 33.3% from downtown. The Mastodons were outrebounded by Southeastern Louisiana 40-35.

The leading scorer through one game for Purdue Fort Wayne is Jalon Pipkins with 18 points, while Bobby Planutis has scored 14 and DeMierre Black has 13 points. Ra Kpedi and Deonte Billups each have six rebounds to lead the Mastodons and Demetric Horton is the leader in assists with four. 

Kent State has yet to tip-off its season after it's opener against Alcorn State was canceled. Kent State has three top players returning from last season in Danny Pippen, Giovanni Santiago and Tervell Beck. The Golden Flashes have also added four junior college transfers as well as two grad transfers including Justyn Hamilton from Temple and Michael Nuga from Portland State. Nuga is expected to slip into the starting lineup after scoring an average of 10.5 points in 2018-19 at Portland State.

The other four expected starters are Malique Jacobs and Tekorian Smith  joining Nuga in the backcourt and Beck and Pippen in the front Court. The four JUCO transfers are all ranked and the top 100 in the nation including Malique Jacobs, James Jordan, Gabe O’Neal and “TK” Smith, who is expected to be one of the top scorers for Kent State this season.

Kent State has several new faces in its lineup including Tekorian Smith, who is a high-scoring and high rated JUCO transfer and should be one of the top two scorers this season for the Golden Flashes. Kent State has covered the number in four of its last five to end last season and has covered the number in four the last five against an opponent from the Horizon Conference.
