No. 17 Purdue (14-3, 3-1) seems like a team that came into the season with some national regard, but the Boilermakers are starting to look like they could make a lot of noise in the postseason. Of course, they'll have to finish the Big Ten season strong, but they've gotten off to a nice start with wins against Iowa, Ohio State and No. 13 Wisconsin.
The win against the Badgers came on Sunday, as Purdue stifled the Wisconsin offense particularly in the first half, when they managed just 23 points.
Sophomore forward Caleb Swanigan averages a double-double, with 18.3 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. He has had some monster games recently, including his 32 points and 20 rebounds against Norfolk State. He followed that up two games later with 28 points and 22 boards against Minnesota.
The Hawkeyes (10-7, 2-2) were embarrassed by the Boilermakers a couple of weeks ago, losing by 22 points on the road. In that game, Iowa went down 49-25 at the break. A strong second half is encouraging leading up to the matchup between the two teams in Iowa City.
Iowa has some bad losses up to this point, but some good wins as well, such as those against Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Michigan.
Senior guard Peter Jok has proven to be a great scorer over the last couple years. This season, he averages 22.6 points per game, and scored 30-plus points against Seton Hall, Memphis, Omaha and Nebraska.
