The Northwestern State Demons are set to visit United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas for a season-opening matchup against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Northwestern State Demons will be looking to improve on their 2019-2020 season as they went 15-15 with a 4th place finish in the Southland. The Demons will have to replace their leading scorer from a season ago in Chuder Bile as he averaged 14.3 PPG and 7.6 RPG. Northwestern State will be dependent on guys like Jairus Robinson (11.9 PPG) and Brian White (7.8 PPG, 3.1 APG) to carry the load this year.

The Northwestern State Demons were very good at scoring the basketball during the 2019-2020 season as they ranked 63rd in the country in scoring as they averaged 75.5 PPG. The Demons really struggled on the defensive side of the court last season as they ranked 316th in points allowed as opponents averaged 75.7 PPG.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders will be looking to improve off their 2019-2020 season as they went 18-13 with a 3rd place finish in the Big 12, and they return a ton of talent from last year’s team as well as the transfer portal. The Raiders will have to replace their leading scorer from a season ago in Jahmi’us Rasmey as he averaged 15 PPG before moving onto the NBA. The Red Raiders received the services of VCU transfer Marcus Santos-Silva (12.8 PPG, 8.9 RPG), Georgetown transfer Mac McClung (15.7 PPG), and UNLV transfer Joel Ntambwe (11.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG).

The Texas Tech Red Raiders were average at scoring the basketball during the 2019-2020 season as they ranked 148th in the country in scoring as they averaged 71.9 PPG. The Red Raiders strength was on the defensive side of the court as they ranked 30th in the country in points allowed as they held their opponents to an average of 63.5 PPG.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders should once again be a contender in the NCAA Tournament as they return a ton of key pieces plus received some of the best transfers on the market from this past offseason. The Northwestern State Demons have an opportunity to be competitive in the Southland as they traditionally are, but Texas Tech is a way better team plus the Demons have to replace their leading scorer against one of the best defenses in college basketball. Jahmi’us Ramsey should feel more comfortable during his 2nd year in Lubbock which should lead to more scoring opportunities, but he will also be nicely supplemented by the electric Mac McClung. Final Score Prediction, Texas Tech Red Raiders win and cover ATS 82-55.
