Monmouth at Seton Hall 11/9/22 - College Basketball Picks & Predictions

The Monmouth Hawks open the 2022-2023 regular season Wednesday night in Newark,NJ against the Seton Hall Pirates. Monmouth comes into this season looking to build off a 21-13 record from a year ago that saw their season come to an end in the MAAC Championship against Saint Peter’s. Defensively Monmouth struggled a bit as Saint Peters made 41.3% of their shots and 35% from beyond the arc to score 60 points in the game. Offensively Monmouth had one of their worst games of the season making only 23.5% of their shots and 15.8% from beyond the arc Commonwealth turning the ball over nine times in the loss.

Walker Miller had one of his best games of the season in the final game of the year with 15 points and six rebounds in 35 minutes on the floor. Shavar Reynolds added 12 points in 34 minutes and Jarvis Vaughan added 10 points and four rebounds as well. Vaughan Is expected to step into a bigger role this season as one of the most experienced Hawks returning on the roster.

The Seton Hall Pirates start their season Wednesday night at home in hopes of improving on a 21 win season a year ago. Seaton Hall lost their final game of the year by 27 points to TCU in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Seton Hall defense was obliterated in the final game of the year as TCU scored 69 total points including 39 in the second half on 50.9% shooting and 40% from the floor. Offensively Seton Hall was terrible shooting below 30% from the floor and beyond the arc, while turning the ball over 16 times leading to the blowout loss.

Kadary Richmond will be leaned upon heavily this year by Seton Hall as the highest scoring returner after averaging 8.8 points and a team high 4.1 assists per game last season. Jamir Harris and Tyrese Samuel will each step into bigger roles this season for the pirates after both averaged more than seven points per game a year ago.
