The Charlotte 49ers and the Milwaukee Panthers will play in the College Basketball Invitational Tournament quarterfinals on Monday. Charlotte entered the tournament as the third seed, coming off of 65-56 win against the Western Carolina Catamounts on Saturday. Brice Williams was dominant against the Catamounts, dropping 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
The 49ers ended their regular season with a 18-13 record, placing them as the fifth seed in the Conference USA. Brice Williams has been the leading scorer and best player for Charlotte this year, he averaged a team-leading 14 points per game on 41% shooting from three. Led by Williams, the 49ers were an elite three point shooting team at over 37% from long range as a team. Charlotte was extremely impressive on the defensive end this season, limiting teams to just 62.6 points per game.
The Milwaukee Panthers came into the CBI as the eleventh seed, most recently they defeated the Stetson Hatters 87-83 on Sunday. BJ Freeman absolutely exploded for the Panthers on Sunday, dropping a whopping 43 points and 7 rebounds to help Milwaukee advance.
BJ Freeman has been a scoring machine all year long for Milwaukee, averaging 17.5 points in the regular season and then elevating it to 24 points per game in the playoffs. The Panthers have displayed a very solid offense this season, scoring 78 points per game as a team. Milwaukee has limited opponents to just 30.8% shooting from three, however they still allow over 73 points per game.
